Und die Nacht kam Schweren Schrittes ()

Originally released on tape through Australian label Winterreich Productions "Und die Nacht kam Schweren Schrittes" is far more stripped down and minimal in approach in comparison to "Lichtschleier". Another difference is the apparent lack of nature sounds, which featured quite prominently in "Lichtschleier". The album sets its mood by taking a theme and slowly building upon its foundation through repeated sessions with slight alterations to the basic theme. Again there's a great contrast between light and dark fractions, morose and upbeat atmospheres. Negligible percussion provides an almost tribal nature to the proceedings, while occasional piano interludes add a certain classical feel to the whole. The soundscapes are lengthy and take their time to build to a climax, the result is a mesmerizing listening session that makes the mind wander and lifts the soul. Downside is that certain sections are a bit overlong and outstay their welcome at certain points. The album is strong, but a bit inconsistent in its latter stages, as directions that are hinted upon are never fully explored. The album was duly remastered at Strype Audio Studio (Zyklon) in Oslo, Norway by Tom Kvålsvoll and comes with fitting artwork that is fittingly desolate. For people wanting to explore this genre Vintteriket is the ideal place to start from.
