Finland's death/thrash combo Dauntless has been around since 1991 and has released 7 demos up until now. "Execute the Fact" is the band's first full length for Firebox Records and compiles the best Dauntless material of their demo days. Working in favor of the band is the gut wrenching groove their material has. Vocally, the band has a number of similarities to US post-metalcore act December and the mastery of their instruments is simply stunning. Dauntless prove to be able to play high energy, groove oriented and convincingly lethal death/thrash metal - but lack a certain flair to set them apart from the competitors in this genre. All tracks are of equal high quality individually, but went heard successively over a number of times, they tend to bleed together and sound a bit samey. Productionwise this release is pretty good, although the vocals tend to sound a bit too processed for their own good. The guitar tone nicely thick yet remaining clear, the drum sound could have been better, as the snare drums sounds a bit industrial at times. The lay-out and design is kept to be minimum, but fitting for the band's current modus operanti. Why Dauntless decided to release this demo anthology instead of a new full length is beyond me. However, for people unfamiliar with the band's earlier material "Execute the Fact" is the ideal place to start from. If you're into aggressive death/thrash Dauntless will be to your liking. Not the most original stuff around, but very competent all the same.
