This is the first live album (on both CD and DVD, this time around) from Kataklysm since their 1998 live recording “Northern Hyperblast - Live” on Hypnotic Records, which was their last with enigmatic frontman/lyricist/vocalist Sylvain Houde. This new album “Live In Deutschland (the Devastation Begins)” captures the band violently at Party.San Open Air on August 12, 2006 in Bad Berka, Germany. The album comes in two discs; the first being an hour-long DVD containing Kataklysm’s entire 12 track setlist from their Party.San appearance. Notably, this set concentrates on the band’s latter day material and includes no cuts from their genre defining pre-1998 releases. Additionally, there’s a mini-set (4 tracks) capturing the band live at The Medley in their native Canada, surprisingly there’s ‘The Awakener’ (roll-out single of the band’s legendary 1996 “The Temple Of Knowledge” album) and ‘Sorcery’ (of the 1995 album of the same name) to be found. Finally, the first disc concludes with “The Test Of Time”, a 30 minute documentary on the band’s impressive 15 year career. This feature includes band profilers and interviews, band/fan pictures, on-the-road footage and all of the band’s promotional videos: ‘The Awakener’, ‘In Shadows & Dust’, ‘As I Slither’, ‘Crippled & Broken’ and ‘To Reign Again’. Limited edition comes with an additional live cd of the band’s previously mentioned set at Party.San Open Air.
