This Dutch triumvirate is another all-star project consisting of Sinister vocalist Aad Kloosterwaard (Infinited Hate, Blastcorps), Slovenian drummer Robert Kovacic and Sinister crew member Erwin Harreman on guitars and bass. Supreme Pain concentrates on bringing old school death metal in its purest form, pretty much down the line of early Sinister with some additional Swedish semi-melodic leanings. Kloosterwaard is decent behind the mic, although his delivery is a bit monotonous and lacking in interesting vocal lines. The riffings – on both guitars and bass - are solid in composition and executed with finesse, but sound thoroughly unenthusiastic and tired at best. The compact guitar leads on the other hand shred relentlessly and elevate the guitar work instantly, at times this reminded of Hoffman era Deicide. ‘Resurrected From the Underworld’, ‘Flesh Collector’ and ‘Soul Eater’ aren’t the most original cuts in the genre, but work well enough considering 2/3rds of the band was pulled in on session basis. Artwork, logo and lay-out of this promo are plain ugly, apparently added as a mere afterthought. Additionally, the painting used for cover art has already been used by Unlord on the inner sleeve of their “Schwarzwald” debut. Supreme Pain at this point looks like a good second or third-tier underground death metal project.
