Last year Belgian technical deathcore formation Crimson Falls released their "Ruins 2k5" promo which received quite positive critics here. Now, one year later, Crimson Falls is back with their first full length record "The True Face Of Human Nature". First thing to notice is that Crimson Falls has come into its own and have shed the annoying At the Gates mimicry which plagued their promo greatly. Overall, Crimson Falls have something of a less complex and more straightforward In-Quest. Vocalist Wim Jacobs screams, belches, growls and grunts his way through out most of the record. Drummer Sigi Loots (ex-Exterminator, last featured on 1992's "Circle Of Violence" tape) is perhaps the band's most prominent member. Blending straight-out metalcore with the recognizable traits of Swedish death metal Crimson Falls have carved out a nice little niche for themselves. Recorded at CCR Studios (Leng Tch'e, Aborted, In-Quest) the album comes with a pristine production that allows all details to be properly displayed. Guest contributions come from Sven De Caluwé (Aborted, Leng Tch'e) on 'Controle Alt Delete' and XCaroX (No Recess) on 'Martyr vs Terrorist'. Artwork and lay-out by Avernus Studios (formerly Dirge Design) is well done and beautifully fuses the band's metal and hardcore influences into a pro looking package. Crimson Falls is definitely one of the few Belgian extreme metal bands that are worth checking out. Highly recommended if are into the more core oriented side of extreme metal.
