On the second generation of Roadrunner’s trademark “Best Of” series we have Sepultura and Fear Factory – both in their classic line-ups - as most prominent players. All records the band did for the label in the period of ’92-’01 are featured here. There are three tracks of ‘92s “Soul Of A New Machine”, four tracks of ‘95s “Demanufacture”, four tracks of ‘98s “Obsolete” and concluding, one track of 2001’s “Digimortal” to be found on this compilation. Why the label didn’t include ‘Damaged’ of the “Digimortal” sessions leaves one begging for questions, since it was released as a single back in the day. The tracklist is pretty complete and representative for what Fear Factory released during their stint with Roadrunner Records. It's however strange that the label choose to include the Gary Numan cover of ‘Cars’ in the “Obsolete” material present on this disc. If you own the albums featured on this compilation, there’s no need to rush out to buy this disc, since all tracks included are the album versions. The artwork is basic but quite typical (and fairly unspectacular) for the series. If you are new to Fear Factory’s older material, this is an ideal place to start from. Long time fans, however, will find absolutely nothing of interest here.
