In order to generate buzz for their upcoming full length in 2007 re-formed US death metal stalwarts Diabolic have released this three track EP exclusively on the Internet. Consisting of three tracks, namely 'Devour the Subconscious', 'Possessed By Death' and 'Avulsions Of the Soul' Diabolic make no mistake about their intentions. New vocalist/bassist Jesse Jolly has a mean and gruff growl that easily blows Paul Ouellette (ex-Diabolic, Unholy Ghost) out of the water in delivery and sheer intensity. Guitarist duo Kelly McLauchlin (ex-Unholy Ghost, Pessimist) and Raymond "R.J." James fire off a multitude of frightening riffs, skin-crawling harmonies and blazing lightning fast solos. Drummer Aantar Lee Coates ups the ante considerably in comparison to past releases, possibly delivering his most intense and varied work behind the kit to date. Once again produced at Diet Of Worms with producer Juan "Punchy" Gonzalez this EP might just be the best thing Diabolic have done from compositional and production point of view. The three tracks combine the band's well-known high speed blasphemous death metal as on "Subterreaneal Magnitude" with the outstanding musicianship seen on "Vengeance Ascending". The production work reminds a lot of Blastmaster's "Promo 2004" with the warmth and organic sound of "Subterreaneal Magnitude". Despite that this EP clocks just an quarter of an hour, the material present on this recording is probably the best Diabolic has written in years. Now we can only hope that some respectable label will back this unit up financially and put them where they belong: on the road.
