Colour me surprised, this project by Cian Houchin (ex-Fields Of The Nephilim bassist/programmer) has its strengths. Saints Of Eden combine a number of unlikely genres and actually make it work. The Prodigy/Underworld styled electro beats, atmospheric keyboards (at once gothic and techno sounding) and early thrash metal riffing are combined with British sounding urban rap vocals and processed harsh metal grunts. Add a Depeche Mode alike angst and an incredible club sensibility and the result is a possible underground club hit in the making. Vocally, this EP balances somewhere between Marilyn Manson, (later) Type O Negative, '80s synth-pop and processed metal grunts. The production work is pristine, smooth and processed to ensure no possible rough edges. Artwork is relatively unimpressive and poppy in its execution, nothing really out of the ordinary. Despite that this EP contains no band pictures whatsoever, this combo does however looks distinctively metal. This really just looks like a maxi single you'd find in any record store. I'm not sure whether this will appeal to the extreme metal crowds, but I wouldn't be surprised if this project would hit it big in the mainstream club circuit and dance metal (KMFDM, Pain, Project Pitchfork, Rammstein, etc) community alike.
