    Hrimthursum ()

"Hrimthursum", the band's first recorded output since 2002's "Bloodhymns" is a work that differs on a number of levels from previous outings, but is better for it. First thing to notice is that there's more room for atmospherics and melody. This hour-long gargantuan conceptual journey into Icelandic folklore might as well be the crowning achievement in the band's long career. For the first time recorded outside of Sunlight Studios and without resident producer Tomas Skogsberg, "Hrimthursum" boasts a sound that is at once warmer and more refined than the band's earlier, more raw ventures. Necrophobic keep the pace high with vicious rhythmic assaults and plenty of the band's signature creepy riffing is abound in every respect. Bassist/vocalist Tobias Sidegård's decipherable grunts in combination with the truly epic sound arrangements in male/female choirs and chorus placements make "Hrimthursum" truly sound monumental. Necrophobic still sports black metal-like chord progressions and blastbeats while remaining incredibly groovy and catchy through out. Artwork by Erik 'Tyrant' Gustafsson (Nifelheim) fits the epic nature of this disc like a glove. Label troubles have plagued the band in the past, but with a record as strong as this one, Necrophobic is bound to leave their mark on the scene - even if they deserved it earlier already. Highly recommended!
