    Silvottuna ja häpäistynä (ep)

Ydin mixes solid US death metal in the vein of early Morbid Angel and Monstrosity with bits and pieces of Scandinavian black metal (especially vocally). The production is reasonably good given that this is the band's second venture into recording. Although not pristine and crystal clear, the baroque production works well enough with the material Ydin presents on this EP. The band is solid in composition and execution. Especially vocalist Punishment reminds me a bit of Kataklysm's first singer Sylvain Houde in his lower regions. Drummer Löytynoja isn't the fastest or most technical drummer around, but his work is far above most underground percussionists. Elegant solos are around as well, as the guitar lead in 'Kylmä ydin' or the drum solos in 'Verivaltias' and 'No.1(pt.2)' go to show. Artwork by guitarist/backing vocalist Ahmis is brutal and shocking, but remains tasteful through out. Additionally, there's a neat multimedia section with 3 live videos. My biggest gripe with Ydin is that they choose to operate in their native tongue, which at this point pretty much limits their audience to the Scandinavian regions. If they refine their sound a bit and start writing material in English, they'll have no problem finding a worldwide audience.
