Only three albums deep into their career and already we have the first live DVD of Erik Rutan's bone-dusting death metal unit. Backed by bassist Randy Piro and session drummer Reno Killerich (Panzerchrist, Exmortem, Dimmu Borgir, Vile, etc) "The Perilous Fight" sees Hate Eternal at its best, presenting 12 tracks encompassing the band's catalogue so far. Filmed live in London June 4 2006 at The Garage the set consists of 2 tracks from 1999's "Conquering the Throne", 4 tracks of 2002's "King Of All Kings" and 6 tracks of 2005's "I, Monarch" and the whole is filmed with multiple cameras in an energetic way. Editing is energetic without getting messy or spasm inducing. A comparison could be made to Deicide's "When London Burns" DVD which is edited in a similar manner. Mixing of the live sound was done by Erik Rutan at his Mana Studios facilities. Additionally, there the band's three promo videos to date, specifically ‘Powers that Be' (of 2002's "King Of All Kings"), ‘I, Monarch' and ‘The Victorious Reign' (both of 2005's "I, Monarch" - with the latter making its world premier on this DVD). Also, included is a 20 minute interview with all three Hate Eternal members immediately post-gig. Herein Rutan describes at length the reasons for his chosen musical path and how he has overcome the various obstacles thrown up during the band's existence. Concluding, there's a guided tour of the Mana Studio recording facilities by owner/producer Erik Rutan. Artwork by Paul Romano (Mastodon, Nasum, The Red Chord) finishes things off in a highly proficient manner.
