Italy's modern thrash metallers Eyeconoclast seem heavily inspired by acts like Sweden's The Crown and more recent bands like Gojira and Mnemic. Their music consists of equal parts death/thrash and modern influences. On the 5 tracks of this self-released demo the band keep the pedal firmly to the metal at all times, but remembers to slow down to reach maximum impact. The production work is adequate, given that this is a demo, with enough space for every instrument to remain clear and audible. Occasionally, some things bleed out, but overall the production work is far above the usual demo level. Vocals vary heavily, going from gruff growls to early James Hetfield styled shouts. Lay-out and artwork are tasteful and contemporary looking taking a cue from bands like Soilwork, Mnemic and the likes. Eyeconoclast have a good understanding of what direction they want to head in the future and given that they work on the minor production flaws a bit, they could easily become an international competitor. If you like modern death/thrash metal, Eyeconoclast might just be one of the more appealing players in the underground scene today. An impressive first EP.
