Given the recent revival and increased popularity of '80s thrash metal and having all influential genre acts (Necrodeath, Destruction, Kreator, Sodom) still alive and well, it's no surprise that Death Mechanism plays their thrash metal just like these monuments. In fact, Death Mechanism just copy about every recognizable trait of those first two bands. There's no harm in paying homage to one's peers, but in this case it's a little more than suspicious how much this band copies from its genre-defining influences. The production is typically low-fi like those old '80s thrash records, the musicianship is basic but adequate for this genre and the typical thrash snarl here sounds a bit black metal-ish. Sure, the vocals are somewhat more brutal than the typical thrash growl, but it's a stretch. There's nothing really amazing about this particular promo and while I can appreciate some lowbrow thrash worship every once in a while Death Mechanism really crossed the line. I appreciate one's liking of a particular but imitating said band on about every level isn't going to work in the long term and grander scheme of things. The promo's entire black cover art might just be a reference to Spinal Tap. At this point, I give Death Mechanism no real future expectancy unless they drop the mimicry and try to do something that makes them stand out in one way or another from their inspirations. Truly sad to see a possible good band waste away in senseless copycat behaviour.
