This is the first release for Extreme Underground, the new sublabel of US based label Brutal Bands. "Blood Feast" - the debut EP of Italian gore/grind formation Necrotorture - might very well simultaneously be the most generic and neatly produced death/grind crossover release in quite some time. Where Necrotorture derives its particular savage strengths from is their unrelenting and decimating delivery of 4 original tracks and a rather cliché Napalm Death cover. On the other hand, the pathologist imagery, lyrical content and general look of things Necrotorture struggles to keep me awake, let alone effectively grab my attention. 'Anal Torture' (not a tribute to the seminal pré-Leng Tch'e grind act, as you might think) kicks off with the usual obscure horror flick sample and goes through the expected twists and turns of contemporary gore/grind, including the low pig style vocals. Those vocals in itself remind me of Dave Rotten's work in Christ Denied. 'Re-Exploring Ways Of the Flesh' is a re-recorded cut from the band's similar named second demo "Exploring Ways Of the Flesh". Much déja-entendu as the track starts off with the well-known gut-puking sample from Lucio Fulci's minor splatter classic "City Of the Living Dead/Gates Of Hell", which is sampled by every known and unknown band in this subgenre. 'Pleasures Of the Moribund' and 'Blood Feast' both sound convincing enough for the genre, but fail to do anything new or particularly outstanding with it. The latter track sounds like the cleanest Mortician worship or bordering on near plagiarism. Through out these tracks a flick as "Braindead" is sampled which is just too obvious a choice in this subgenre. Overall, this is a good EP that really offers nothing new while remaining high in quality through out its rather short duration. Recommendable for newbies and fans of Christ Denied in particular.
