Formed by ex-Deströyer 666 drummer Chris Vulcano Abominator has released their debut "Damnation's Prophecy" through US underground label Necropolis and two albums (2001's "Subversives For Lucifer" and 2003's "Nuctemeron Descend") through Osmose Productions in the span of their decade plus existence. "The Eternal Conflagration" is the first record for their new contractor and it really doesn't differ that radically from their previous outputs. Where their previous recordings had a fitting production this time it falls a bit flat panning the effect of the band's typical intense Australian thrash laced war-like black metal with blistering solos. The artwork by genre artist Chris "Thorncross" Moyen (Beherit, Blasphemy, Surrender Of Divinity) is another solid entry in his catalogue and among the best pieces he has done so far. Chris Vulcano double-duties on vocals alongside his battering work behind the kit and his vocals remind me somewhat of early Necrophagia. Abominator master the art of writing decent compositions, but there are no real stand-out tracks here. If you want to compare this release to others in a similar genre Abominator is a bit constrained compared to the likes of Blood Storm or Repugnant. That minor point of criticism aside, if you enjoyed the band's previous records, this one will fulfill your violent death/black metal needs perfectly. Fans of Angel Corpse, Deströyer 666, Sadistik Exekution, Bestial Warlust and the likes will find much to like here.
