    Drawing Circles ()

Wydane przez Listenable RecordsRok wydania Kraj HollandNapisał Wouter8Komentarze (0)Textures - Drawing CirclesTextures' 2003 self-produced debut "Polars" didn't go unnoticed in the international extreme metal scene and resulted in a lot of shows all over Europe with Alchemist, Cult Of Luna, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Gojira. "Drawing Circles" - the band's second outing on France's Listenable Records - once again combines Textures' Meshuggah inspired forward-thinking metal filled with polyrhythmic chops and nervous riffs combined with a Devin Townsend like feeling for soaring melodies. This record is by all means a step up from "Polars". The production is smooth, retains enough gritty heaviness while never sacrificing any clarity or loss of detail in the process. Erik Kalsbeek convincingly replaces departed vocalist Pieter Verpaalen as his vocal style is pretty much down the same alley. 'Illumination' displays the band's progressive, almost atmospheric fusion like approach brilliantly with soothing guitar lines as clean vocals replace the band's otherwise straightforward hardcore shouts. 'Stream Of Consciousness' is a mid-tempo track which goes through all the facets that the band handle so aptly, be it downright mean metal, floating ambient or spectacularly atmospheric and technical wizardry. 'Upward' is an atmospheric, fusion semi-acoustic interlude wherein the Cynic influence clearly surfaces with an almost pop like sensibility and aura. 'Circular' is vintage Textures: odd time changes, multiple vocal harmonies, staccato riffs and slight keyboard melodies. Along French act Gojira Textures is one of the most promising young technical metal acts of the last years. This one (and their debut) comes highly recommended.
