Filmed during their 2004 Canadian tour in support of "Reduced to Ashes" US death metal outfit Deeds Of Flesh deliver a decent but flawed first DVD effort. The majority of this DVD consists of an entire live set, presenting 13 tracks encompassing the band's entire career. The set is filmed with one camera, positioned in the middle of the venue, leaving a lot of interesting options unused. The camera work is a bit shaky at times and there's only the expected zooming in and out from member to member. No interesting cuts or editing is to be found here. With two or three cameras present so much more could have been made from this live set. Bassist/vocalist Jacoby Kingston takes the position as frontman delivering the usual chitchat and shout-outs in between tracks. The Canadian audience was either nearly comatose or really drunk as there's hardly any action from them during the gig, besides a few headbangers in the front. It is not until midway the set that Kingston asks them to be more active that a considerable moshpit breaks loose for the duration of that particular track only. Around the same time vocalist/guitarist Erik Lindmark starts to interact more with the crowd. Besides the live show there's also the promo video for 'Crown Of Souls' to be found on this DVD, in two different versions and some weblinks. Why Deeds Of Flesh didn't include their two other promotional videos ('Indigenous to the Appaling (Mutinous Human)' from '99s "Path Of the Weakening" and 'Cleansed By Fire' from 2001's "Mark Of the Legion") is beyond me, as this would have been the opportunity to compile everything they'd done up to that point. Overall, "Live In Montreal" is a respectable live DVD by this working man's death metal act - but the distinct feeling that so much more could and should have been done with this format is undeniable.
