Canada, Montreal based extreme metal act Neuraxis have been around since '94 delivering excellent technical death metal. With albums such as the frenetic death/grind approach of "Imagery" ('97), "A Passage Into Forlorn" (2001) in turn introduced a more melodic and progressive side, while with "Truth Beyond..." (2002), Neuraxis raised the bar with a dizzying amount of brutality, melody and technicality. Last year Earache Records re-issued a double cd, compiling these earlier recorded outputs. "Trilateral Progression" sees the band upping the ante as they simultaneously combine the strengths of their previous 3 albums into one cohesive whole. The 10 tracks on this record display a band that is less reliant on speed, this open-ended approach sees the band able to flesh out the complex structures of the songs more. Picking out a stand out track is no easy task as all tracks are of frightening high quality, but 'Shatter the Wisdom', 'The Apex' and 'A Curative Struggle' need to be heard. The production work is amazing, but with people as Yannick St. Amand (Ion Dissonance, Despised Icon), Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer) and Jason Suecof (Capharnaum, Trivium) in the credits one is bound to expect nothing less than the absolute best. If you're into more melodic technical death metal, Neuraxis is a band you need to hear.
