Xtreem Music re-issues one of the most sought after underground death metal gems of the early nineties. Morpheus Descends (later re-named Morpheus) was the primitive death metal band around Rob Yench (who later briefly joined US death metal institution Incantation) on the short-lived JL America label. First up are the original 9 tracks of Morpheus Descends legendary "Ritual Of Infinity" album. This album caused quite some commotion upon its initial release in the extreme metal scene due to its somber approach and top notch musicianship, quickly placing the band among their peers Cannibal Corpse, Incantation and Suffocation. However, the production values weren't that exceptional, a disease many formal death metal bands suffered from. The "Adipocere" EP was released one year prior to this album. Morpheus Descends combined speed/thrash metal techniques with monolithic, groovy structured songs oozing heaviness and bleakness from every pore. Overall, Spanish label Xtreem Music have done an admirable gesture releasing this lost gem of brutal death metal. This is a quintessential purchase in your early '90s death metal collection. While not as widely known as some of its counterparts released in the same timeframe, this release was equally as important for the development of the genre. Do yourself a favor and pick this re-issue up now, as the original copies are very hard to come by.
