Last year From Beyond Productions re-issued the earlier recorded works of Chilean old school black/thrash metal act Ammit. "Hammer Of Darkness" sees Ammit returning with all new material. Honestly, they focus more on the old school thrash side of things but besides that there's not a great progression or evolution to be found here. Count Czar Yang still has an incredibly annoying nasal grunted vocal style and Ammit remain a close Hellhammer, early Destruction and Sodom worship. Speaking in their advantage, all tracks have a good groove and the old school feeling is undeniable on this record. Accept's 'Fast As a Shark' is also given the Ammit treatment and the result pretty much speaks for itself. Artwork, lay-out and presentation is on par with the earlier re-issues and is minimal but effective. Understandably the production is decidedly low key, but has improved over said re-issues. The drums sound hollow and thin, the guitars are quite in the forefront of the mix and there are no bass lines to be heard. Overall, I can't say that I'm particularly fond of this album - but I guess the old school thrash and underground black metal fanatics will be able to see and appreciate the merits of this album.
