Prior to signing to Earache Records Dutch death metal tornado Severe Torture fulfilled contractual obligations with Karmageddon Media by releasing this live album. "Bloodletting" captures the band in Aarhus, Denmark at May 1st 2004. Severe Torture are their usual self, storming relentlessly through their 9 track setlist, which contains all highlights from their first two albums. Vocalist Dennis Schreurs isn't the most talkative frontman around and no time is wasted on filler talk. For a live album the audience isn't mixed in loud enough and it feels like Severe Torture were playing for an empty hall, which is hard to imagine. After the live part the band covers 'Lost Souls' from seminal Dutch technical death metal maestros Pestilence. This track also allows Schreurs some more freedom to experiment in the vocal department, which leads to some interesting results. Finally, the last 5 tracks form Severe Torture's 1998 out-of-print "Baptized" demo, which is remastered for the occasion. Lay-out and artwork are done by Sven De Caluwé (Aborted, Leng Tch'e) for Dirge Design, per usual it's a high quality rendering but its recognizable style can be spotted from miles away. Severe Torture fanatics can now experience the intensity of a live gig in the comfort of their homes. Overall, this is a decent release - but nothing more than just decent.
