This outfit is the American answer to Polish acts such as Crionics and Vesania. Sure, originality isn't their forte but they definitely know how to write an effective death/black metal song. Combining the cold mechanical death metal of Myrkskog (f.e. "Deathmachine") with the obscure synthesizers that made Emperor's "Anthems to the Welkin At Dusk" memorable the 7 tracks provide one with the idea that Apotheosys are well underway breaking away from the faceless mass. Vocalist Ethan Lane sounds quite like Abbath (Immortal) and Zac Pearson's work behind the drum-kit is a mix between Immortal ("Battles In the North") and "In the Nightside Eclipse" era Emperor. The riffs of Lane and Trent McCall shift constantly between US death metal and Scandinavian black metal. 'Dreams Of the Undying' and 'Torn from Enlightenment' prove this point excellently. The opening section from 'Cataclysm' takes the Emperor worship a little too far, it almost seems lifted from 'The Wanderer'. The synthesizers are sprinkled through out this EP but never dominate or get in the way of the tracks. Artwork and design of this EP are to par with current standards, even though the Apotheosys logo reminds a bit too much of the Setherial logo. These nitpicks aside "The Triumph and The Fall" is a strong EP of a band that is quite close to hitting their own niche.
