On their Unique Leader debut Maltese brutal death metal formation Beheaded further flesh out the sound presented on "Recounts Of Disembodiment". Exactly as on that record Beheaded are one of the few bands that realize that extreme brutality doesn't necessarily mean extreme speed. Opener 'Crowned With Repression' demonstrates the effective use of high speed blasting sections with grinding mid tempo interludes rather well. New vocalist Melchior Borg doesn't differ all that much from former grunter Lawrence Joyce. The guitar tone is nicely thick, the bass lines are audible and while the snare drum sound has undergone notable improvement over "Recounts Of Disembodiment" it still suffers from sounding like a tin can. In contrary to many of their peers Beheaded once again provide the tracks with tasteful guitar solo's that serve a purpose in the composition at hand. For the first time around the band has done an instrumental piece in the form of 'Depths Of Sore'. Stand out tracks are 'Crowned With Repression', 'Ill Remains', 'Conceived to Dominate' and the title track. While Beheaded doesn't present any novelties in comparison to their earlier works on Mighty Music, "Ominous Bloodline" is still one competent, solid
slab of brutal death metal.
