Call them consistent. On their latest offering long-standing UK death metal combo Desecration present another slab of downright mean death metal. 'When the Heart Stops Beating' opens this record on a convincing if not unoriginal note. Where other bands strive to broaden their sound Desecration steadily continue down the trail of 2002's "Pathway to Deviance". Major difference with band's earlier outputs is that the tracks stand more on their own and there's certainly progression to be noticed in the guitar work presented here. While the majority of the material is still straightforward, no-frills brutal death metal "Process Of Decay" suffers less from monotony in contrary to their earlier body of work. Morbid Mark (Amputation) provides guest vocals on 'Black Putrefaction' and 'Butyric Fermentation', frankly it's nothing to truly write home about. Mainman Ollie's vocal lines have gotten far more interesting than on prior albums. Drumming has improved greatly, there are hints of melody in contrary to past blast-athons. Only downside that I can think of is the rather short length the tracks here, which only a few near the 4 minute mark. Production of the album is crisp with a thick guitar sound and the drums haven't sound better until now. Appropriate artwork adorns this album and while it's nothing earth-shattering or shocking, it fits the mood of this album rather well. Desecration can match themselves with Polish death metal act Vader on the level of consistency alone. People who enjoyed everything this outfit released prior to "Process Of Decay" can rest on both ears and blindly buy this album.
