Deadborn - consisting of ex-Necrophagist members Mario Petrovic (vocals) and Slavek Foltyn (drums) - have truly delivered an impressive EP here. Combining the technical and songwriting prowess of Decapitated with the groove and ferociousness of Beheaded this German four piece has managed to write what is probably to become the most interesting death metal record in years. 'Condemned to Perdition' kicks off this record and with multiple tempo changes, breaks and a great guitar lead this track instantly hits the mark. Mario Petrovic's vocals even remind of Decapitated's own Sauron. The midsection sees the band slowing down for a bit building tension and groove in the process. A compact bass lead introduces the closing blast section with another great guitar lead to follow. 'Inborn Contempt' takes a slower approach and serves as a great display for the band's impressive technical skills. Every once in a while the riffs and rhythms remind of Danish death metal outfit Iniquity. Rolling drums, pounding rhythm sections and to-the-point guitar lines drive the point of this track home splendidly. 'Decades Of Decapitation' is the band's tour de force combining high speed death metal passages with breathtaking technical - and groove oriented parts. The centerpiece is especially interesting in its instrumental interaction, led by the central guitar line. 'Thorns Of Inner Fear' leans somewhat to the black metal side in its guitar lines, although US death metal seems to be a primary influence here. Suddenly the tempo drops and Deadborn contrast the blasting opening half with another great midtempo intersection. The functional guitar lead that follows leads excellent into another more up-tempo passage. With breaks follow and apparently the track ends. The sudden abrupt ending of the last track is the one thing that takes this impressive EP down, on all other aspects this is a well-executed, professionally recorded slab of technical death metal that will appeal especially to people who like Decapitated. A truly convincing EP here and highly recommended for that matter.
