    Hell's Rebirth (cd)

With 5 albums (this being their fifth) in 13 years they have consistently redefined and fine-tuned their old school brutal death metal. 'Age Of Hell's Rebirth' brings UK veterans Desecration to mind. Atonal riffing in a in-your-face structure that instantly pulverizes anything in sight. 'Death Metal Maniac' is what its title implies, depicting a no holds barred celebration of the death metal lifestyle that upholds certain cliché's of the said lifestyle. Nevertheless, any metalhead will be able to recognize and familiarize him/herself with the lyric sheet. This track and 'Powerhead' harken back to Celtic Frost and the first ends with the naming of a plethora of genre classics. 'Trust No One' on the other hand reminds of early Morbid Angel and in certain places of German brutal death metal combo Anasarca. 'Curse Of the Dead' and 'Sickened to Behold' a groovy piece of mid nineties Swedish death metal - with the first having a rocking lead in its third act. 'Fires That Consume' starts off with another obvious Celtic Frost influence, until the centerpiece displays Cianide opting for a slow section bringing Incantation and Immolation to mind. One of the highlights of the album. 'World Abyss' sounds like Massacre on steroids or Blood Red Throne, if you will. Concluding is the track 'Wormfeast' - which in contrary to what the title might suggest is no gore/grind track. Instead we get a track of pure Autopsy and Bolt Thrower worship. The artwork is genius in its simplicity and perfectly embodies the record's atmosphere. It's definitely great to see the return of a more old school form of death metal. Cianide prove that nothing beats the original concept of this music. Highly recommended.
