    In Obscure Depths ()

Wydane przez The LSP CompanyRok wydania Kraj BelgiumNapisał Wouter6Komentarze (0)Panchrysia - In Obscure DepthsAfter two strong demo recordings Panchrysia inked a deal with Belgian label The LSP Company, which resulted in the release of this debut "In Obscure Depths". This album marks the debut of new vocalist/guitarist Zahrim and a shift from Swedish death metal to modern black metal. For all intends and purposes, these cosmetic changes are for the good. The recognizable Panchrysia riffs have remained intact, the lyrical content is still philosophical - yet a bit more simplified in comparison to their earliest recordings. Vocalist Zahrim proves to be a versatile frontman whose piercing shrieks are complemented by the sharp riffs and constant double-bass work of drummer Dol. The inclusion of semi-industrial ambient pieces gives "In Obscure Depths" a sort of post-modern feel, which the lay-out suggested. While the riffs and compositions aren't immediately going to shatter any known genre conventions, they work incredibly well in their simplicity and in the compositions at hand. No one said music needs to be overly technical to be enjoyable. Panchrysia are the sort of band that strive to be around in the coming five years as well. Nowhere infantile factors can be found, parallels with late Emperor or Zyklon are bound to arise - although Panchrysia differ quite a bit from the said acts, musically as well as thematically. Production is up to par with current standards and while the band isn't musically all there yet, they show a compositional muscle not often seen within the confines of this genre. Just listen to 'Spiritual Gain - Bloom Up to the Sun' or 'Ruins' for excellent examples of this. As said lay-out, presentation and musicianship are impressive for a debut, yet I feel that "In Obscure Depths" will not entirely convince people who haven't followed this band from their inception. Nevertheless, a strong debut that is recommended to fans of modern black metal.
