    Shadows Out Of Time (cd)

On this 4 track promo cd the band manages to clearly state whom their influences are, but never successfully manage to break away from the conventions they have forced upon themselves. ‘Existence’ kicks in with an electronic sample that could have been lifted from a Mnemic album, only to regress in a sludgy metal track without any real climax to follow. Galloping solo aside the track is hardly surprising which might have to do with the inclusion of too many early In Flames or early Amorphis alike solos and the traditional heavy metal framework upon which it’s constructed. ‘What Was Once… Is Nevermore’ has an interesting part close to the second minute, where for a second a later Death technical part is included. As with any band in this particular stage of evolution, occasionally they sound convincing but these moments seldom dominate this package of recycled ideas and re-hashed classic riffs. For the most part, however, Eviscerate is burdened by the Gothenburg stigma: carrying tons of melody and ideas but lacking the ability to fully integrate them into a working compositional structure. Considerably lacking ‘punch’ and finesse Eviscerate needs to tighten up their tracks, drop the redundant parts and add some viciousness to their sound. While not a bad promo offering by any stretch of the imagination "Shadows Out Of Time" just doesn’t entirely convince.
