It's great to see that in the quickly evolving death metal scene that there are still certainties. One of these certainties are American death metal veterans Incantation. In their +10 year existence the band has always remained loyal to the classic death metal sound they helped invent. Now, 13 years after their acclaimed debut "Onward to Golgotha" - Incantation is running stronger than ever. "Decimate Christendom" displays everything Incantation is about. From the short outbursts of 'Dying Divinity' and the title track to the obscure doomy pieces such as 'Oath Of Armageddon', 'No Paradise Awaits' or 'Horns Of Eradication' the band never strays from its roots. Compared to "The Infernal Storm" the amount of short tracks has grown, which isn't a bad thing. Which 'Merciless Tyranny' and 'Thorns Of Everlasting Persecution' serve to prove. A track as 'Blaspheme the Sacraments' makes it apparent that Kyle Severn's skills behind the drumkit have only gotten better over time. Founding member and guitarist John McEntee here makes his vocal debut and this provides to be a far more interesting listening experience than Mike Saez - whom we heard on "The Infernal Storm" and "Blasphemy" - as McEntee is far more expressive and puts different accents on the high and low notes. The production is what we expect from a band as this one: dry, rich in detail and ultimately baroque with a clear, crunchy guitar sound and audible bass lines. Incantation have proven with "Decimate Christendom" that they are still a force to be reckoned with. Limited slipcase comes with an exclusive bonus track. Highly recommended!
