"Old Scars Fresh Wound" is a career-spanning release by Belgian veteran old school death metal outfit Suhrim. Although the band is quite known domestically, anyone outside Belgium has hardly heard of this band. Being Suhrim's second album release to date, while having its strengths - it certainly isn't without its flaws. After the obligate intro, the band retakes 4 old tracks from their demo days, all four tracks differ greatly from one another, mapping out Suhrim's past to present. 'Roasted Cunt With A Slice Of Lemon' - the only new track on this record sees Suhrim heading for a more sophisticated death metal course, which pays a great deal of attention to detail in the guitar work and the general structure of the song works better than most of the band's chuggish pile-of-groove-riff repertoire. While not yet monumental in the classic sense 'Roasted Cunt.' is a track that proves that Suhrim can write a memorable death metal track if they want to. Fans of Bolt Thrower, early Illdisposed and Gorefest need not to doubt here. The production values have improved drastically (in a good sense) compared to their "Unidentified Flying Bodyparts" offering. While not exactly groundbreaking the semi-chunky production is borderline acceptable by today's standards. The clicking drum sound can get annoying and the effect on the vocals should have been left out. All in all its rawness adds to the old school atmosphere. Artwork isn't the usual death metal fare and much attention has been paid to the booklet, including lyric sheet and pictures. Grammatical - and writing errors - which plagued "Unidentified Flying Bodyparts" greatly - are a rarity this time around. Also included is the band's sold out "Gore Is the End" demo and a very basic DVD with a live gig. "Gore Is the End" is the typical slab of underground death metal in the vein of "Mortal Massacre" era Mortician. A great way for new fans to get to know Suhrim and their history.
