With their breakthrough album "Mechanical Spin Phenomena" Mnemic have taken the world by storm with their slamming cyber thrash metal. "The Audio Injected Souls" - the follow-up to the said, critically acclaimed album - sees the band distilling their Fear Factory-meets-Meshuggah sound to a product that is easily digestible by the casual listener. The crystal clear, sterile computerized production and the shredding staccato riff centered songs all sound incredible with interwoven vocal harmonies. While the band obviously houses seasoned musicians the level of songwriting ever hardly rises above average. Influences to be found are Fear Factory, Pantera and Meshuggah, respectively. Vocally Trivium, Diecast, later In Flames and Textures leap to mind. 'Dreamstate Emergency' starts off promising with the tightest staccato riff not to originate from Fear Factory. 'Door 2.12' tries to hard to be an In Flames track but ultimately fails miserably. Towards the second half of 'Illuminate' Mnemic manages to create an interesting midsection, before the track falls back to its bland screamy hardcore basis with Textures guitar fx to spice things up. A missed chance. 'Deathbox' starts with a technobeat-meets-blastbeat lifted straight out of Fear Factory's "Obsolete" album, which almost borders on plagiarism. While paying respect to their peers is one thing, this is taking things too far. 'Sane vs. Normal' is the first interesting track on this record, forming a great vocal - and sample experiment before the track truly takes off towards the first minute, great later Sepultura-ish lead at the conclusion. 'Jack Vegas' and 'Mindsaver' sees the band leaning more towards the Pantera side of things, if Phil Anselmo's band used computer effects, this would be the result. I'm sure people who loved the first album will adore this, I personally miss memorable songs on this album.
