Dutch veteran death/thrash band Thanatos is a band with quite a rich history. After releasing two cult albums ('90s "Arising From the Netherworlds" and '92s "Realm Of Ecstasy"), a somewhat disappointing follow-up with '98s "Angelic Encounters". In 2002 Thanatos released the promising "Beyond Terror" promo, and now the band is back with their most punishing and versatile album to date. From the haunting choir intro of 'Lambs To the Slaughter', the re-recorded 'Beyond Terror' which opens with the piano theme of Lucio Fulci's splatter masterpiece "The Beyond", the "Ringu" inspired 'The Sign Of Sadako' to the traditional heavy metal vocals of Ed Warby (Gorefest, Ayreon, etc) in 'Eraser' everything is kept deliciously old school about this release. Devilish shrieking grunts by frontman Stephan Gebedi, with twin guitar shredding, rolling semi-blasting drums, headbang inducing song structures and well-placed leads that ensure the utmost aggression is kept intact. The albums is beautifully laid-out and sees Thanatos in its most promising line-up to date with a chunky production to match the masterful songwriting. "Undead.Unholy.Divine" breathes everything where underground metal is about and is highly recommended as such. Buy it now!
