Long running Brazilian death metal act Mental Horror return after their 2002 offer "Proclaiming Vengeance". "Abyss Of Hypocrisy" forms an 11 track exercise in honing the death metal sound popularized by Brazilian genre mammoths Krisiun and Rebaelliun. Tight, devoid of any melody; insanely fast and immensely brutal death metal which only slows down for the occasional break, drumfill or solo. Adriano Martini is vocally in par with US death metal veterans Deeds Of Flesh. Both "Scourge Of Beast" and "Messenger" contain a few breaks which add some variation to this cunning record. "Vae Solis" allows drummer Robles Dresch to display his skills behind the kit and thus forms a welcome break from Mental Horror's otherwise blistering, non-holds-barred death metal. Mental Horror never strays away from the death metal theme book, lyrically. With esoteric interludes "Shurpu Baragal" and "Gigim Xul" the band draws a few parallels with Chilean act Ammit. Fans of bands like Nephasth, Ophiolatry, Krisiun and Horned God can buy this record without doubt. Others are advised to listen closely before buying.
