It’s a long road that you need to take to find appreciation at the very end. Andrea took this road and after a long break might finally bask in the sun of recognition. Arcana Liturgia and Moon09 are released beautifully by Skaventhrone and Knekelput Recordings. Speaking to Italians has always been fun for me: they usually express their thoughts in simple terms, with no unnecessary complexity, straight to the point, and Andrea is no different in this respect. We found numerous topics to discuss: his nerdiness, Alien saga, his city of Parma, cult of tapes, his numerous bands… Let’s dive right in and see what he had to say.

DSZ: So we’ve already discussed Arcana and you bands, but there’s one more dungeon synth-side project, Moon09. What is it all about?

Andrea: Moon09 is my side project and it’s a little different from Arcana Liturgia. The important thing behind this project is that it was born from the fact that I realized that dungeon synth is not the same music as in the late 90’s. Dungeon synth is, for me, old-school dungeon synth, like some call it today. It was always dark, obscure and related to black metal. But today it’s not the same, today we have a lot of projects with concepts from video games, movies, dinosaurs, everything. Moon09 was born to see if I’m OK with this new sort of dungeon synth. My question was: “Am I too old for this or not?”. I took my keyboard and computer and I thought: OK, I need to do something related to myself. What am I? I’m a nerd! I watched the Alien movie saga and started to compose the album “Transmission 1007”. It’s a good result, I’m very happy with this album. It was a very good thing for me, because today dungeon synth music is not the same as many years ago. And it’s good, because today we have a very large amount of projects with different concepts

If that was an interview in DSZ #1, I’d be nervous. I’d think it’s too short, too succinct, that maybe RAL didn’t like the questions. Today I know that it doesn’t have to be the case at all. This is what interviews in the 90’s often looked like, and no one expected long rants from black metal musicians. For some readers, younger than RAL, or even me, it is the first zine ever, and they’ve had no chance yet to read such a concise conversation, but in fact, many musicians are even more brief (Revenge, for example, used to answer with one sentence at best, if not with one word). This is why the questioning below feels like a blast from the past. RAL is a man who was there, a man who made dungeon synth what it is today together with just a handful of people. And taking into consideration the scarcity of Depressive Silence interviews, the one you’re going to read is a treasure in itself, just because it’s Depressive Silence. Let the ancient spirit seize you and drag you to the dungeons where you belong.

DSZ: What has been your most bizarre life experience?

Migh: Life itself seems quite bizarre enough. Quite bizarre was when walking through the graveyard of Oslo somewhen in the mid 90’s and not finding Euronymous‘ resting place – later learned he was buried in Ski, hahaha…

Ktos juz o tym wspominal. Tak, to brzmi zupelnie jak to, co dzisiaj nazywamy dungeon synthem jesli chodzi o strone muzyczna. W grupach tez sie ten temat przewijal. Natomiast oczywistym jest, ze morbidzi nie nalezeli do sceny ds, wiec to jest raczej zrodlo, z ktorego ds sie wzial: intra zespolow blackmetalowych, ktora to komcepcja akurat podobnie zostala oddana przez zespol deathmetalowy. "OSACZENI 1995 - Nieznane fakty!
Nerthon, Nergal dwa bratanki (na 24 h) jeden Gdański drugi Zaodrzański.

Nie wiem, czy kogoś to interesuje, czy nie interesuje, ale chciałbym wyrzucić z siebie kilka nieczystości z moich wewnętrznych podrobów. Po prostu siedziała we mnie ta qrewska zadra i lęk.
Przenieśmy się do lat 1995. Mało osób albo praktycznie nikt nie wie, że mnie, czyli Bartosza Źrebca (Nerthona) w 1995 łączy jeden wspólny wątek z Adamem Darskim (Nergalem).
Wątek przydarzył się mi i jemu w ciągu zaledwie 24 h
Uściślijmy to:
ON nagrał z Behemothem płytę o nazwie (Sventevith Storming Near The Baltic) w roku 1995 A ja dla Eternal Fear - (Pagans Souls of Ryczyn... Zvantevith) też w 1995.
Nie wiem, co Behemoth i Nergal chciał wyrazić i jakie były jego intencje odnośnie do Światowida (Na okładce widzimy, jak jego wizerunek wciąga Bałtycki Wir)
U mnie wyglądało to prozaicznie. Było to odkrywanie i poszukiwanie swoich korzeni. W domu na półce leżał jeden z zeszytów tom 01 - Dzieje Państwa Polskiego - "Od Prasłowian do Polaków" - Jerzy Strzelczyk 1987 rok. Poczytałem i zacząłem wyciągać wnioski, że życie to coś więcej, a nie tylko 2000 lat ery Chrystusa, że przed nim były cywilizacje i wartości. A nie pustka , małpy i pożoga. Zafascynowany rzeźbą i posągiem Światowida zrobiłem Xero z magazynu i jego wizerunek wykorzystałem na okładkę dema, co później zaowocowało burzą w podziemiu muzycznym.
Okazało się, że moje projekty Misterium, Eternal Fear tak jak z resztą Behemoth trafiły na Listę wrogów polskiego Black Metalu (??) "... Raczej listę wrogów Darkena i skinheadów". Wielu ludzi nękały tak zwane "Inspekcje" kapel należących do nurtu NSBM "Nazistów w Długich włosach oraz skinheadów" niektórych członków rodzimej Wiary między innymi z poznańskiego Perunwit.
I \UWAGA właśnie ten ostatni ze swoją świtą odwiedził mnie i Nergala w ciągu 24 godzin
Dla ścisłości Eternal Fear "Ancient Woods" został zarejestrowany w 1995 tak jak zresztą drugie demo Eternal Fear " Pagan Souls of Ryczyn"...Zvantevith. Demo, które początkowo miało trafić, na zupełnie inny projekt z zaproszonymi członkami Vallachii. Z myślą pojednania o Nazwie ZVANTEVITH a samo demo nazywało się właściwie "Pagan souls of Ryczyn".
Dark grał na gitarze, Quithe na wokalu, ja zajmowałem się rytmem i syntezatorami, Bazaborath pisał teksty. Niestety projekt okazał się "przeklętym" projektem.
Po latach uznałem, że wolę wydać je pod szyldem Eternal Fear - *Pagan Soul of Ryczyn.. Zvantevith) dokładnie po zainteresowaniu się i chęci wydania przez wytwórnie muzyczną z Francji. Uwaga! Ze zmienioną okładką, na której nie ma już wizerunku Światowida w zamian widnieją akcesoria białej broni z oryginalnej sesji zdjęciowej, którą wykonałem z Małpą (Misterium) i Quithem (ex-Vallachia) w 1994/95 roku.
Aczkolwiek nie ukrywam, że oryginalne okładki krążą gdzieś w podziemiu jak i ulotki. Głównie dużo było Eternal Fear - "Ancient Woods" ze Światowitami po bokach.
