NEW LOOK OBSIDIAN SITE AND E-STORE...AND FAREWELL TO A COMRADE
http://www.obsidianrecords.com
A much more streamlined and easy to use Obsidian internet home is now up and running. An improved e-store will allow easier browsing of our awesome Australian metal titles, blogs and events sections to keep you updated with our workings, improved artist profile and release sections and even a forum for discussion amongst customers with the Obsidian representatives.
Speaking of Obsidian representatives, we're saddened to announce that Jason Baker has decided to leave his role within the citadel due to the pressures of the real world. Many of you would have had dealings with Jase either at a show, running a stall, setting up a trade or in his tireless and relentless effort to promote our great Australian acts around the globe. His ability to capture the mood of a bands music in a beautifully written PR is unlike that of any other and we've appreciated everything he's done for us..and especially everything he's done for the Australian metal community.

NEW ASTRIAAL ALBUM ANNOUNCED
http://www.myspace.com/astriaal1
Some six years after from the release of their last studio album, rumours have long abounded that a follow up to 2003's landmark debut long player 'Renascent Misanthropy' was more than just myth...Obsidian Records can finally confirm that Astriaal have now completed the recording of the long awaited second album.
In the works since 2004, the as yet untitled new album has been recorded over the past year utilising a number of studios across Australia, with the band now set to venture overseas to mix the release, as they strive to further push the sonic boundaries achieved with the Renascent Misanthropy release.

While a release date is yet to be set, it appears the wait may finally be drawing to a close...

NEW ARKHETH ALBUM FORTHCOMING
http://www.myspace.com/arkheth
Another band with a follow up album when all seemed dead and gone....
Arkheth are putting the final touches on a two-disc album to be released sometime in late 2009. Titled The Quintessence Of Algaresh, it features nearly two hours of epic symphonic black metal, conjuring landscapes both bleak and uplifting.

'Hymns of a Howling Wind' was released to rave review in 2003, managing to land themselves on 2004's Bloodlust festival, only to disappear back to hometown Orange, NSW and all seemed over. But with a re-emergence to the live scene 2008, whispers of new material also surfaced, and Obsidian Records are proud to announce that they can once again unleash a new force into the Australian metal scene.

DEAD LETTER OPENER SIGNED TO OBSIDIAN RECORDS
http://www.myspace.com/deadletteropener
http://www.deadletteropener.com
Since their live debut in January 10 in 2007, Dead Letter Opener have been assaulting Brisbane crowds with their insanely tight delivery of progressive metal unlike much you'll hear anywhere else. The 2007 EP "Certified Nerdcore" giving a mere taste of what was to come, Obsidian Records is proud to add Dead Letter Opener to the list of quality Australian metal bands that we can catapult to the metal hordes. Recently supporting Cradle of Filth to a packed house in Brisbane and last year helping US's Dillinger Escape Plan destroy the stage, Dead Letter Opener have shown they can share the stage with the worlds best and still shine through as a highlight.

With news of this union, we're also pleased to announce that DLO's debut full length album "Lumen" will be unleashed in late 2009. Featuring 11 tracks of the bands eclectic styling's, it was tracked in Brisbane at Jungle Library Studios 3.0, mixed with the help of Aidan Barton of Pathogen at Sovereign Studios in Perth and mastered by Jochem Jacobs of Textures at Split Second Sound in Amsterdam. A preview track "Yours and What's Mine" is now available on the myspace for perusal along with an accompanying film clip. A sampler for Lumen is now on the bands myspace for a taste of whats in store for you!
