Three Sixes - "Know God, No Peace"
2014 / CD
Universal Line Records
USA
It has been a strange journey for American industrial groove metal (nu-metal is dead and buried, so euphemisms have taken its place) band Three Sixes. Since 1998 they have weathered trends and industry changes. "Know God, No Peace" is their latest effort after a bunch of EPs and an album. It does fit the typical nu-metal genre tag, though. Aggro schizophrenic vocals, chugs, grooves – this will probably appeal to Lamb Of God and Pantera fans as those of Slipknot and KoRn. It sounds exactly like you expect it to, and that's the problem. No matter how many times you repeat to me that is so-called "industrial thrash/groove metal" it fits the nu-metal tag without any exception. The production is thin, the playing is okay – but "Know God, No Peace" sounds like a record that comes 15 years too late. Not even the no-budget video for 'Lead Winged Angel' and the Bible packaging (neat find, gotta admit) can save this band and record from redundancy. There was a time and a place for this, and that was 15 years ago. In the early 2000s we had Skinlab and Pissing Razors, Three Sixes would have felt right at home with bands of such persuasion. However it is 2015, and that train has left the station. Its gimmick design choice along makes "Know God, No Peace" memorable, and for an album that is the worst sin. The music is a mere byproduct here.
