Perversity - "Ablaze"
LAVADOME PRODUCTIONS
SLOVAKIA
After releasing the very commendable debut of Czech Republic’s Brutally Deceased, Lavadome Productions is now back with a new release. This is a solid piece of European death metal with Floridian tendencies and technical flourishes. Perversity is a band located in Slovakia and "Ablaze" is their fourth album to date. The pace ranges from midtempo to fast, although speed is never a priority. "Ablaze" combines the rhythmic structural brutality of "Consuming Impulse" era Pestilence with a vibe of early Morbid Angel and various bits of Deicide’s earlier work. Like label mates Brutally Deceased this is a band that keeps traditional genre traits and traditions in high regard. Everything about this record just oozes with old school charm. The bass guitar is clearly audible, which is a definite plus. In today’s scene of technical excesses, breakdown bonanza, soulless old school death metal revivals and general disinterest in the genre’s more traditional traits; it’s good to have a band like Perversity, who do this genre from the heart. "Ablaze" isn’t going to change anybody’s perception of the genre. On the whole, it is a pulsating record that ticks all the right boxes and does more right than it does wrong.
