Decayed - "The Black Metal Flame"
BlackSeed Productions
Portugal
Latest record by Portugese black/thrashers Decayed which, after a serene intro piece, burst out in a violent Australian tinged black/thrash metal storm akin to Bestial Warlust, Abominator and Deströyer 666. This record comes with 6 cover tracks, including cuts by Bathory and Ramones, plus three re-recorded early tracks and one exclusive unreleased song with 'Under the Banner'. Where Decayed's earlier records weren't able to capture the horror vibe they aimed for "The Black Flame" does succeed on that regard. The playing is fierce and the atmosphere is dark and macabre. Everything seems to come together for Decayed on this new record. Overall, Decayed have improved significantly as musicians and songwriters. Still this is black/thrash of the old school variety, so the band remains rather straightforward in approach. Recorded, mixed and mastered at Brugo Studio by Hugo Camarinha which sounds very similar to Sepultura's often overlooked 1987 gem "Schizophrenia", especially as far as the drum sound is concerned. Cover artwork by Suhrim frontman Johan Antonissen. This is something for fans of Bewitched, Desaster and Nifelheim.
