Blunt Force Trauma 2006 / DEMO
SELF-FINANCED
JAPAN
Japan's Blunt Force Trauma (not to be mistaken with the Austin, Texas hardcore band of the same name) makes no mistake about being influenced by the slamming and grooving death metal variety popularized by US genre veterans Dying Fetus. The trio, consisting of Taniguchi (bass), Kuriyama (guitar) and Shuhei (drums) shares vocal duties, although this doesn't quite work out as planned since the vocal lines are poorly staged. Musically, this is a fairly straightforward yet uninspired take on "Infatuation with Malevolence" era Dying Fetus with extremely guttural, undecipherable vocals. The riff work isn't the most interesting, but technically fairly well-developed given that this band was formed in 2006. There's a definite Internal Bleeding (circa "Driven to Conquer") influence present here. Drumming is stylistically void, basic and to-the-point without any interesting fills or cymbal work, in truth it's only there to maximize the effect of the groove - and pit riffs that are omnipresent. The two tracks on this record 'Fight In Anus' and 'Vomit Christmas', totalling in about 7 minutes, will appeal to the slam - and groove crowds, but beyond that there's little of interest here. Artwork is poor and underdeveloped. Production work is quite well given that this is the band's first demo venture. Blunt Force Trauma still has a lot of work cut out for them before they'll make their way to sub-top of the slamming death metal genre.
